Take Care…

Wednesday, August 15th, 2007

Dear Wii,

I’ll be quite busy these few days onwards, I won’t have time to take care of you anymore. So, I’m putting you in the hamsap hands of someone else for the moment. I hope he uses the Wiimote only for playing and not as an egg beater, fly swatter, samurai sword or worse.. a dildo. Uggh…

If he bully you, you let me know when I’m back. Till then…. take care..

1st Wii Game Review : Red Steel

Sunday, April 8th, 2007

After getting bored with Wii Sports, the very first game I played on my Wii is Red Steel by Ubisoft. I’ll try to write a review here and tell you what I think of the game.

Red Steel is one of the first few games launched together with the Wii console. It was developed from ground up to fully make use of the interactive gaming experience of the Wiimote and Nunchuk wireless controller.

*images in this post are googled…

The Story:

You play the role of an Ang Moh by the name of Scott-san, who meets up with his Japanese fiancee Miyu. Well, this girl is no ordinary Japanese char boh, because she is the only daughter of the big boss of the ruling Japanese Yakuza (Mafia), Sato-san.

Now, why would anybody want to date the daughter of the Japanese Yakuza boss???? But this is a game so I’m not gonna bitch about it..

Sato is in town in US to meet with his daughter, and to eventually meet up with you, his future son in-law. However, things didn’t go very well because as soon as Miyu went off with her father, an assassin opened machine gun fire at him and all hell breaks lose. Sato’s many bodyguards are shot and you ran off peeing in your pants.

Then.. you saw that the bad dudes has kidnapped Miyu. With no choice, you have to save her. The bad dudes also had Sato-san and you also have to save him. Luckilly, you did and Sato brought you to his kawan punya house. He passed you the legacy of the Sato-clan, the Banana Gili…. or something like that… cannot remember la… which is actually a samurai sword.

With the sword, you follow the kidnappers from US to Japan and try to save your char boh, and stop all the nonsense once and for all.

Gameplay:

Red Steel is basically a first person shooter/slasher game where throughout the game you only see your own hands and gun/blades. You have to use the Wiimote and Nunchuk in order to play this game. Movement is done via the directional stick on the Nunchuk and you basically points where you want Scott to aim/move using the Wiimote.

I must say that I am not a very big fan of first person shooters since the first day I tried playing Doom, Doom2, Doom3, Quake and other FPS on the computer. They make me want to vomit and I felt dizzy after playing for some time. UAAAAKKKK~~~

In this world, there are people who can play first person shooters, and there are people who cannot play first person shooters. Sorry, that’s just a fact so accept it.

So how in the world can Loctor play Red Steel?

Well well… this is the part where the Wii gaming experience comes in. First, you are not sitting 1-2 feet away from the screen. Secondly, using the Wiimote/Nunchuk combo, the feeling is more “real world” so I guess my brain can easily adjust to it. Thirdly, no Video lag, poor performance issue because it’s a video game console after all :D

So… gameplay wise.. banyak senang:

1) See bad guy, point at him with the wiimote and pull the trigger. Bang! Bang! he die.

2) See bad guy with sword, you automatically pulled out your sword too. Use the Wiimote just like a samurai sword and swing it around just like you wanna slash somebody. Use Nunchuk to block bad guy’s attacks.

Of course, the game will NOT follow all your movements. Basically you can just slash from left to right or the other way, then slash from top-down to crack bad guy’s skull or bottom-up to slice his balls. Later in the game you will learn how to use combo-moves. Cool~!

When bad guy loses the sword fight, you have the choice of to kill him off with the final move, or to let him go in order to earn more ‘respect points’.

You can even play swords with Harajuku Girls too!!

and they loose their clothes when you slash hard enough!

WOA HA HA HA HA HA HA~~!!

The game tries to be as life-like as possible and to me, it’s doing pretty good la. You can hold your gun sideways like gangster style too. That’s pretty well thought of!

Conclusion:

So what do I think of Red Steel after playing through the whole game?

I’d give it a 7 out of 10 la.

Why? The cut scenes in the game really SUCKS. Seems like Ubisoft ran out of time when developing this game in order to meet the Wii launch date.

Other than that, it’s not bad at all if you like first person shooter games. The samurai sword fight is an add-on bonus to the game.

For me I won’t be playing it again because it gets boring after a while. I’ll be selling it off soon :D

Till then.. Woa ha ha ha ha ha…

Actually hor…

The Mall, The Fort and the Flag

Saturday, March 10th, 2007

This afternoon, Mrs Mayat has to go and meet up with some of her ex-classmates from high school in the island. They are to meet at the latest and biggest bad ass shopping mall of ‘em all, Queensbay Mall. So around 2pm, we left our home and headed there but was met with quite heavy traffic on the bridge.

Around 45 minutes later, we arrived and Mrs Mayat went off to meet up with her friends while I roamed around the mall, trying to check out each and every shop there. I must admit, I’m really not a fan of big shopping mall. My legs grew weak from all the walking and I rested at the concourse area and observed some road safety event organized by tayar company Bridgestone.

It’s really a boring event… kids colouring contest…

Well… not really THAT boring… :P

Kekekkekekkeke…

So after Mrs is done, we left the mall and headed all the way to Fort Cornwallis. Me being born and bred in this wonderful state, I must say that I’ve only visited this tourist destination once in my life and I couldn’t even remember when was it. Since Mrs Mayat is eager to go, I might as well join her and see what I’ve missed since the last time I came.

Right after paying the entrance ticket (RM3 each), you can put on the British soldier hat and hold the rifle and shoot photos together with the founder of Penang, Francis Light.

As I can’t remember how it used to look like the last time I was here, everything seem new to me :)

fort_corn_02.jpg

There’s this underground room where all the real cannon balls are kept..

fort_corn_03.jpg

I must say… those cannon balls are REAL round and HUGE….

I mean….

Figuratively speaking… ROUND AND HUGE…

fort_corn_04.jpg

So we continued to roam around the fort… and take some photos..

… before I need a toilet break..

fort_corn_05.jpg

There’s a row of bunkers/rooms on one side of the fort and there are many reading materials available. You also get to know about the history of the British’s arrival in Penang and how they fought with ‘em Japs in WWII..

fort_corn_07.jpg

You also learn about the fashion trend those sexy British brought along to Malaya..

fort_corn_08.jpg

and those who laugh at them….

fort_corn_09.jpg

When we came out from Fort Cornwallis, I saw a bunch of people playing with two very tall flags. Wow… a Chingay practice session was in place! I’ve never seen this before..

chingay_01.jpg

I guess some big event is coming soon and these guys really work hard!!!

There’s the No-Shadow-Kick-The-Flag practice…

chingay_02.jpg

.. as well as the Let’s-Drop-The-Flag-At-Guy-Who-Is-Resting-On-The-Bench technique..

chingay_03.jpg

It was getting late and we paid Mr Lee the joss stick maker a visit..

.. before we finally call it a day… and head back to our Home… Sweet… Home…
