Kiamsiap™ Challenge (Part #2)
Okay so after issuing the challenge to Ted Adnan last week, I got off to work immediately on this project. Of course, like any other projects, we need proper planning as well as a good supportive project team.
So I have appointed myself as Project Manager, myself as Design Engineer, myself as Finance Manager and MamaMayat as Textile Engineer.
I quickly logged off the net and throw my ideas on my Kiamsiap™ FREE notepad given to me when I serviced my Kereta Mayat™ few months ago…
The main criteria for the Kiamsiap™ 3×6′ is that is must be damn CHEAP. As CHEAP as possible. Then next most important is that it must be highly portable. So that we can bring it for on-location shooting without having to hire a lorry to carry it. And finally, of course it must be effective as well to produce the portrait photos that not only looks nice … but is commercially viable to clients and customers alike.
After listing out the materials needed, I left the house and headed to Kulim town to buy the white cloth which is the main item in my BOM (Bill of Material) list. Why Kulim? I was on the way laa…..
There are two types of cloth available, thick and normal. Since I do not want to lose much photon energy from the speedlights, I decided to use the normal thickness one. Also, it’s CHEAPER. LOL~!! I will not disclose the price yet until this Sunday where Ted and I will compare our results.
I got 4 feet by 7 feet of white cloth so that I can wrap it around the frame snugly.
Next up, is the frame of the diffuser. For this, I have considered several items to be used as the frame and finally I’ve decided that using 15mm PVC pipes are the best because they’re strong, and they’re light. A simple square frame will need 4 pieces of L-shape joints, two 3 feet pipes and two 6 feet pipes.
Since 6 feet pipes ain’t exactly portable to bring around (I can’t even think of how to fit them into the car), I decided to saw them into half so effectively, I have 6 pieces of 3 feet pipes. To join them together, I bought another 2 pieces of straight joints.
When I reached MamaMayat’s home, I quickly assemble the frame…
Woahahah… this is getting better and better… !!
I got MamaMayat™ to help me with the measurement of the cloth over the frame….
There are some heavy work needed to cut and sew the cloth so that it an fit over the frame tightly. I helped her with the measurement immediately, she went upstairs to her Textile Design Room to start working on the cloth..
Oh yeah… I’m too Kiamsiap™ to get a tailor to do it so I asked MamaMayat™ with her expertise in sewing.
So… that’s all the update for now… all of you LoctorMayat™ supporters will get to see the final result AND the results from the photoshoot using my constructed Kiamsiap™ 3×6 diffuser panel.
Till then…
WOAHAHAHHAHA

Good Idea! Get two T-joints for the middle so you can fold it in the car and the middle pipe can also serve as something as a handle. But to use PVC glue or not, depends la. No glue, the frame can flex for example when the wind is blowing. With glue, it is strong but cannot take apart to fit into a backpack. Good luck!
